Hello world!

As is mandatory with any new thing regarding coding, there must be a “Hello World!”

The first day:

talk about a long day of sitting! The first day was for the Church’s new hire orientation and HR stuff. Important, but boring, to be frank. In the orientation we learned what was expected of us as Church employees and the environment we would be introduced into and what we should try to maintain. We talked about the Leadership Pattern and how to be better leaders in different ways in the workplace.

I was instructed earlier that I was to contact Alan Brown (my mentor) after the orientation finished. I did so and he met me on our floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. He led me to where my desk was and helped me get acquainted with my equipment and surroundings. He also introduced me to Mark, who has been on the team, practically, since day one. Big, burly guy; he admits he’s the center of attention. He loves to tell stories and people love to listen.

The first day ended pretty quickly, but once it came time to leave, Alan invited me to head home with him on the TRAX (I ride them to my house and so does he.) As we ride the TRAX, I start to ask him questions of his experience, the other team members, what I should know. We had a great talk. He talked about his experience being one of the head haunchos at WordPerfect when it was a big deal back in the day. I know I can learn a lot from him and the other team members; I just hope that my brain can keep up!

That’s about it for the first day, I am a week behind with these entries, but I will try to catch up as best as I can.
